The theme of the first issue of the Society newsletter is “Sublunary Statements.” Sublunary, meaning “beneath the moon” or “of this earth” refers to all that takes place here on the earth’s surface. The issue features essays, stories, and poems about the thin slices of reality that comprise the built environment in which we live and our everyday experience, and how these things are evidences of something else.
This first issue is the beginning of a yearlong series of publications from the Society exploring the earth’s crust and what lies below and above it.
Contents
- “The Story of Kueka,” on the sacred stone of the Kueka people, by researcher and activist Bettina Escauriza,
- “AM DES,” poem on the American landscape, by Sonic Youth member Lee Ranaldo,
